Surfers Against Sewage Regional Reps
Mark Southgate - East England (Norwich)
I work in the East Coast Surf shop in Norwich. I have been surfing for 16 years. I support SAS because growing up 100 metres from the beach I have always had a strong connection with the sea and the beach environment. I believe that whether you are a year-round surfer or a summer time beach goer, everyone has the right to enjoy the sea and the beach without fear of sickness or long-term illness.

Nick Noble - North East England (Saltburn)
Born in 1958 I've been surfing since the 1970's and have passionate about environmental issues since being a teenager. As owner of Saltburn Surf Hire and Surf School I started the seafront business in 1983 and began lobbying Northumbrian Water on coastal pollution. I joined SAS in the early 90's and remain an active member to the present day. I'm also a member of Greenpeace, Survival, Amnesty International and Oxfam. I was also one of the early members of the now defunct local environmental umbrella group 'Teeswatch'.
I've always been aware of the paradox that exists in the sport of surfing. No one can deny the special relationships we have with the natural world and yet intrinsic in that relationship we embrace and use materials derived from manufacturing processes that are very damaging to nature. Each year there are more people surfing and surfers are travelling more to pursue their sport and generally have access to more and more equipment. We are consuming more and our carbon footprint and the damage we are doing to the planet and life upon it is increasing. I believe it is our responsibility to use less in whatever way we can.

Martin Brouard 'Brou' - Channel Islands (Guernsey)
I work in the finance sector in Guernsey and have lived here all my life.
I first started surfing when I was 15 and have never looked back. Guernsey is my home and it is very important to me that we have clean waters, not just for the surfers and other water users but also for our tourist business. SAS do an amazing job and I just wanted to help them to help my island move forward. Together we will see clean waters in Guernsey one day.

Sam Blackmore - West (Wales)
Spent most of my surfing life in New Zealand, and was lucky enough to work with ASR ltd, the company responsible for the development of the new artificial reef at Bournemouth.
God know how but ended up at Aberystwyth University studying computer science - the forecasting system on surfcore is the result of my research into using near-shore models to forecast surf. I teamed up with Jim, and we is 'da Core'.
SAS's work is crucial in protecting our water environment!

Alasdair Steele - Scotland
I live in Edinburgh and am passionate about the marine environment, both through my hobbies - I'm a keen windsurfer turned surfer, and my work, having previously worked in the fishing industry in the northern and western isles of Scotland. I've been involved in Surfers Against Sewage for many years, including 5 years as a board director, and I'm firmly committed to ensuring that the quality of its waters reflects Scotland's clean and unspoilt image. I help SAS through sitting on the "Clean Coast Scotland" committee and spend as much time as I can getting cold and wet in the water in the pursuit of the perfect wave!

Andy Hill - Northern Ireland
I've been supporting SAS since the start and have helped out with all their actions in Northern Ireland. In recent years I've been able to help with their education tour stops, government meetings in Belfast and grassroots campaign actions like the call for full sewage treatment in Portrush. As a former Irish surfing champion and owner of Troggs Surf Shop, campaigning for pollution-free seas is an integral part of who I am and what I do.
